Before departure, we had to have a light mid-morning snack, and it was country bread with Norwegian caviar paste. It is sold in tubes, and comes out in pink squiggly shapes.
The paste is a mixture of lightly smoked cod roe, oil and potato flakes and is a staple for children in the Scandinavian countries. It is sold in every single supermarket in Norway and Sweden, and children eat it throughout the day – for breakfast, with boiled eggs and toast, for a snack, simply on crackers, or even for a light dinner with cheese.
Caviar is a great source of DHA Omega 3, as well as Protein, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12. In the U.S., you can order it online or buy it at Ikea, at the food shop. The brand we always buy is Kavli, but there are other good brands from Norway and Sweden.
So with the caviar toast and cold milk in our bellies, we headed off to Charles De Gaulle airport for a long flight back to Los Angeles.
